Moving effortlessly across disciplines, Rowena Harris' practice shifts modernist discourse into newer, more expansive territories.

Replacing the industrial materials favoured by the pre-war avant-garde with today's equivalents - chipboard, plaster, Lino and plastic - Rowena Harris' work references an age of utopian art and design while subtly mocking its utilitarian ethos.

For all the apparent functionalality of many of Harris's works, they exist as art objects alone, refuting one form of idealism to replace it with another: the autonomy of the artwork and its value, not as utensil, but as a site of aesthetic, critical and lyrical production.
